Lauren Coppola and Jamie Kurtz Named Law360 Rising Stars
July 08, 2020
Robins Kaplan partners Lauren Coppola and Jamie Kurtz have been named 2020 Law360 Rising Stars.
Lauren Coppola chairs the firm’s Telecommunications Practice Group. In her nearly 14 years of practice, Coppola has taken on some of the biggest companies in the telecommunications world. Representing small- and mid-size companies, she has gone toe-to-toe with the multi-billion dollar companies that dominate the industry: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, CenturyLink, Sprint, and Google. Significant achievements of recent years include her advocacy of free teleconference accessibility during the COVID-19 crisis and her defense of Free Conferencing Corporation in a suit seeking to hold it liable for more than $2 million in fees. She is currently spearheading the prosecution of a $50 million claim against telecom giant Inteliquent on behalf of five different telecom companies.
Jamie Kurtz is co-chair of the firm’s Health Care Litigation Group, a fast-growing practice that has recovered nearly $250 million for health care payors in confidential settlements in the past five years. Kurtz has played an integral role in growing the firm’s Health Care Litigation Group, which has been instrumental in growing the field of affirmative litigation in which health insurers pursue recoveries against providers that have abused the healthcare system. Kurtz’s recent achievements include her work on a series of cases related to dialysis providers’ use of a third party to allegedly pay kickbacks to dialysis patients. One of those cases was brought on behalf of United Healthcare, the country’s largest health insurer against a for-profit dialysis provider, American Renal Associates. The case settled in August 2018, with the provider agreeing to pay $32 million.
Law360's "Rising Stars" recognition is reserved for top legal talent under 40 years of age. According to Law360, "The winners are comprised of top litigators and dealmakers practicing at a level usually seen from veteran attorneys." Just 176 attorneys were selected for the Rising Star distinction, chosen from more than 1,300 submissions.
