Human Rights Campaign Names Robins Kaplan LLP a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the Ninth Consecutive Year

December 5, 2016

December 5, 2016—Robins Kaplan LLP® is pleased to announce that the firm has earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” This is the ninth year that Robins Kaplan has achieved this prestigious ranking.

Issued each year by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the CEI is a national benchmarking survey and report that reviews and evaluates corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community.

Earlier this year, Robins Kaplan released an internal “Guidebook for Transgender Inclusion in the Workplace,” which promotes a culture of openness and understanding around transgender issues at the firm and contains a set of innovative guidelines designed to empower firm personnel with tools to foster greater inclusion.

The firm has also advocated for LGBT rights through its pro bono program, including in its representation of Jakob Rumble, a transgender man who allegedly faced discrimination during an emergency hospital visit. In Rumble v. Fairview Health Services and Emergency Physicians Group P.A., attorneys from Robins Kaplan and Gender Justice secured a groundbreaking ruling that the Affordable Care Act’s ban on sex discrimination can include discrimination on the basis of transgender status.

In June, Robins Kaplan was named the nation’s most inclusive law firm for LGBT lawyers at the first-ever Chambers Diversity Awards for its support of the LGBT community.
