Maxwell Loos
Maxwell Loos
Associate
Experience
Maxwell Loos has developed a keen sense of what a winning case looks, sounds, and feels like—and what it takes to build it. Prior to joining Robins Kaplan as an Associate in the Business Litigation group, Max served as a judicial law clerk to Chief Judge Patrick J. Schiltz in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, honing his core writing and legal analysis skills on both civil and criminal cases before the court. Before clerking, he began his legal career as a litigation associate in the D.C. office of a large national law firm. In this role, he worked on a diverse range of complex matters, including ERISA fiduciary-duty class actions, intricate antitrust suits, and fraught labor-and-employment disputes. The common thread running through all of his legal experience is that in a high-stakes situation, understanding every angle of an issue is imperative to success.
Max graduated from Macalester College with a B.A. in International Studies and earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. During law school, he sharpened his editorial and leadership skills as the Editor-in-Chief of The George Washington Law Review. He also interned with the Federal Trade Commission and the Public Integrity Section of the United States Department of Justice, where he gained valuable insights into public policy and the underlying rationales of regulatory enforcement.
Max wore a number of different hats between college and law school: he taught high school English, worked as a barista in cafes and restaurants, and coordinated volunteers from a desk in a floating building at The Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. That diversity of experiences has helped him lead with empathy and see the unexpected dynamics that can drive—or favorably resolve—a dispute.
