New York Partner B. Todd Jones

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – September 3, 2024 – National law firm Robins Kaplan LLP announced today that B. Todd Jones has rejoined the firm as a partner in its Minneapolis and New York offices. Jones brings unparalleled experience and leadership to the firm, with a distinguished legal career that spans public service, federal law enforcement, and private practice.

Jones' career is marked by a series of high-profile roles and achievements, including two terms as U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota and his appointment as the first confirmed Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Most recently, he served nearly a decade as Senior Vice President and Special Counsel for Conduct at the NFL, overseeing the league's risk management, investigatory, and disciplinary processes, including matters related to player and employee misconduct and legalized sports betting.

“We are thrilled to welcome B. Todd back to Robins Kaplan,” said Anthony Froio, Chair of the firm’s Executive Board and Managing Partner. “His exceptional leadership, extensive experience across both the public and private sectors, and commitment to justice give him a unique, 360-degree perspective that will be invaluable to our clients.”

Jones is widely recognized for his legal expertise and dedication to justice. His career began after serving on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, followed by his role as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Minnesota, where he made a significant impact prosecuting major drug trafficking, money laundering, and firearms cases. He transitioned to private practice, becoming a partner at Greene Espel and later at Robins Kaplan, where he focused on complex business litigation, white-collar defense, government and internal investigations, and appellate advocacy. His courtroom skills were highlighted by his successful defense of Hall of Fame baseball player Kirby Puckett, securing a full acquittal at trial.

During his two terms as U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, Jones chaired the Attorney General's Advisory Committee, overseeing significant cases including multi-billion-dollar fraud investigations, high-profile terrorism recruitment cases, and major criminal RICO cases. His leadership at the ATF further solidified his reputation as a respected figure in the legal and law enforcement communities, where he successfully integrated the agency into the Department of Justice after its post-9/11 transition.

Returning to Robins Kaplan, Jones will continue to focus on complex business litigation, government and internal investigations, corporate governance, appellate advocacy, and white-collar criminal defense. He will also bring his extensive experience to emerging areas such as name, image, and likeness (NIL) litigation, copyright and trade protection, and endorsements for athletes and sports clubs.

“I’m thrilled to return to Robins Kaplan, a firm that shares my commitment to justice and excellence,” said Jones. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to help our clients tackle their most complex legal challenges."
