Overview
Tyler Blackmon is an associate in the firm’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group. He most frequently represents consumers in class action lawsuits alleging injuries from collusive and anticompetitive trade conduct. Drawing on experience in federal trial and appellate courts, Tyler also brings an appellate perspective to complex litigation.
Before joining Robins Kaplan, Tyler completed two federal judicial clerkships. He served as a law clerk to Judge John R. Tunheim of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota and then to Judge James A. Wynn Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Through these clerkships, Tyler gained firsthand insight into federal litigation and appellate advocacy, including how courts evaluate legal arguments and develop decisions.
Tyler graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he focused on appellate advocacy, antitrust, and class action litigation. As a student in the law school’s Civil Rights Appellate Clinic, he worked on an amicus brief in support of the Navajo Nation before the United States Supreme Court and helped secure a unanimous Eleventh Circuit victory for a civil rights plaintiff pursuing Eighth Amendment claims arising from a death in solitary confinement. Toward the end of law school, Tyler also worked in the Antitrust Division of the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, gaining insight into government antitrust enforcement.
Prior to law school, Tyler spent five years working in Minnesota politics and government, including serving as Finance Director of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and as a communications specialist with the Minnesota House of Representatives. His experience in high-pressure, public-facing environments informs his ability to communicate complex issues clearly and approach legal challenges with an understanding of their broader strategic context.
