Firm, Attorney Stacey Slaughter Recognized by National Law Journal

November 21, 2019

Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Stacey Slaughter has been selected to receive The National Law Journal’s “Elite Women of the Plaintiff’s Bar” award, one of just 11 recipients nationwide. This award recognition category celebrates women lawyers who have consistently excelled in high-stakes matters on behalf of plaintiffs over the course of their careers. Robins Kaplan attorneys Teresa Fariss McClain, Kellie Lerner, Hollis Salzman, and Tara Sutton have previously been honored with this prestigious award.

In addition, the firm has been selected as a finalist for The National Law Journal’s 2020 Elite Trial Lawyers “Law Firm of the Year” award in the Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, and Mass Torts categories. This is the third consecutive year that the Medical Malpractice Group has been recognized.

The Elite Trial Lawyer Awards recognize U.S. attorneys and law firms that have provided cutting-edge representation and achieved major wins on behalf of plaintiffs. According to the NLJ, the finalists were selected from more than 300 submissions.

Stacey Slaughter

Stacey Slaughter has 20 years of experience handling complex antitrust, consumer, and financial litigation. The cases she has litigated have recovered more than $1 billion for victims of fraud, anticompetitive conduct, and unfair business practices. Over the course of her career, Stacey litigated several of the largest, highest-profile, and most innovative cases affecting financial markets. Often the cases touch on topics few had heard of until Stacey’s work helped bring them to popular consciousness: residential mortgage-backed securities, LIBOR, credit card swipe fees, and more.

Medical Malpractice

For decades, Robins Kaplan’s Medical Malpractice Group has achieved remarkable results on behalf of those who have suffered an injury as a result of medical negligence. Notably, in 2017 the group helped secure a $20.6 million jury verdict on behalf of the family of a woman who died of sepsis just days after giving birth to her first child. The case stands as the largest medical malpractice wrongful death verdict in Minnesota history.

Personal Injury

Robins Kaplan’s personal injury attorneys have had success in countless personal injury and wrongful death cases, including complex matters involving catastrophic events like fires and explosions, industrial accidents, and automobile and airplane accidents, amongst others. The group has clarified or helped change laws that protect individual rights in important cases before the Supreme Courts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Iowa.

Mass Torts

Robins Kaplan’s Mass Tort Group has repeatedly achieved victories that create a path to recovery for hundreds – in some instances, thousands – of individuals injured by drugs and medical devices. Notably, in 2017, the group helped secure a $358 million settlement on behalf of plaintiffs who alleged that that the popular prescription blood pressure medication Benicar had caused them severe and sometimes life-threatening gastrointestinal injuries. The group currently represents over twenty-five Tribes in litigation against major manufacturers and distributors of opioids, alleging devastating public-health effects on Tribal communities

The finalists for the 2020 Elite Trial Lawyers Awards will be recognized at the Trial Lawyers Summit in Miami Beach, Florida on January 20-22, 2020.
