Overview

Hugh Theut is an Associate Attorney in the Business Litigation Group who focuses his practice on complex products liability and healthcare fraud disputes. He draws on experience at both the federal district and appellate court levels to analyze legal issues, develop litigation strategy, and advocate for clients.

Before joining Robins Kaplan, Hugh served a judicial law clerk for Judge Paul L. Maloney of the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan and for Judge Richard Allen Griffin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. During his clerkships, Hugh worked on a broad range of civil and criminal matters, including commercial litigation, class actions, constitutional claims, and civil rights matters. 

Hugh attended Michigan State University College of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan State Law Review. While in law school, Hugh also interned for a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, two Michigan Supreme Court Justices, and the Chief Judge of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.

Originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Hugh is a proud citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
