$1 Million Settlement in Newborn Death After Failed Vacuum Extraction: Susan Craig and Mark Hallberg secured a $1 million settlement after an obstetrician utilized a kiwi vacuum for 30 minutes in an attempt to deliver a baby for a woman with a high-risk pregnancy and prolonged labor, who was too exhausted to push. There were three “pop-offs,” and the baby was not descending with pulls. After a surgical delivery, it was documented that baby had a large, boggy scalp with a “fluid wave” under the skin, consistent with a large subgaleal hemorrhage. Despite aggressive care, the baby could not be saved.

Medical Malpractice Settlement for Failure to Discover Respiratory Arrest, Resulting in Coma: Mark Hallberg confidentially settled a medical malpractice case involving a client who suffered respiratory arrest during a medical procedure. The client underwent surgery at an ambulatory surgery center. The anesthetist failed to recognize that our client lost the ability to protect his airway and our client suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest. As a result of the prolonged respiratory arrest, our client suffered a profound anoxic brain injury and is in a coma. Our firm secured a structured settlement that provides a monthly benefit for the rest of our client’s life.
