Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan has granted final approval of a class action settlement resolving claims that certain 2014–2019 Dodge Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic EcoDiesel trucks contained defective exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers that could lead to engine fires.

The settlement provides significant relief for class members, including a five-year extended warranty covering EGR cooler-related repairs, reimbursement of certain out-of-pocket expenses, and payments to eligible vehicle owners whose trucks experienced fires related to the defect.

In granting final approval, U.S. District Judge Stephen J. Murphy III also recognized the work of class counsel, noting that “the skill of Class Counsel was evident, especially considering case complexity and results achieved.”

Robins Kaplan attorneys Stacey Slaughter and Austin Hurt served as co-counsel for the class alongside attorneys from Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP and The Miller Law Firm.

“This settlement provides an important measure of accountability and meaningful relief for affected vehicle owners,” said Slaughter, co-chair of the firm’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group.

“After years of litigation, we are pleased to have helped secure a result that delivers significant benefits to class members,” added Hurt.
