Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Dick Allyn and Peter Schmit have been selected to receive the 2025 Minnesota ICON award by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer. This award recognizes attorneys or business leaders who have exhibited distinctive excellence that puts them at the top of Minnesota’s legal and business communities.

Dick Allyn, former Minnesota Solicitor General, is known for his impactful work in catastrophic property and liability litigation. With a career spanning decades, Dick has handled landmark cases involving major industrial disasters, environmental protections, and high-profile business disputes. He has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and is recognized for his leadership in public service, pro bono advocacy, and legal education as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School. His dedication to justice and stewardship has earned him multiple honors, including Minnesota Lawyer’s Attorney of the Year and the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s Private Practice Pro Bono Award.

Peter Schmit is Chair of the firm’s National Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, and Civil Rights Group. With over 35 years of experience, Peter is a leading trial lawyer in complex, high-stakes cases across the Upper Midwest. He has secured numerous multi-million-dollar settlements and several seven-figure verdicts and is a recognized thought leader on medical malpractice law. Peter has served as President of the Minnesota Association for Justice and currently chairs the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services Campaign for Legal Aid. His professional excellence is demonstrated by honors including Best Lawyers’ Lawyer of the Year, 22-time recognition as a Minnesota Super Lawyer, and induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers.

This year’s Minnesota ICON award honorees will be celebrated at an event at Quincy Hall in northeast Minneapolis on Thursday, December 11.
