CellTrust v. ionLake, LLC

Robins Kaplan represented ionLake LLC and and its two founders in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by CellTrust for two patents. The federal jury in the District of Minnesota issued a complete defense verdict in favor of ionLake LLC and its two founders affirming that the company did not infringe any of the asserted claims in CellTrust’s patents and that all the asserted claims were invalid.

CellTrust initially sued ionLake in 2019 for patent infringement related to ionLake’s SMS communication platform, called MyRepChat. MyRepChat was created to address security and compliance issues in client communications. CellTrust asserted in the lawsuit that its patents covered products and methods that send SMS/MMS/Voice communications to archivers to meet FINRA and SEC compliance requirements. The trial lasted eight days, and after about two hours of deliberations, the jury found that ionLake did not infringe any of the asserted claims in CellTrust’s patents and that all the asserted claims were invalid.

Past results are reported to provide the reader with an indication of the type of litigation we practice. They do not and should not be construed to create an expectation of result in any other case, as all cases are dependent upon their own unique fact situation and applicable law.
