Experience

Hollis Salzman has extensive antitrust law experience and is nationally recognized by Chambers USA as one of the leading antitrust litigators in the country and by Benchmark Litigation as one of the top 250 women in litigation. Clients describe Ms. Salzman as an “exceptional lawyer” who has “vast knowledge of antitrust law.”

In recent years, Ms. Salzman’s exceptional advocacy was recognized by Chambers USA, The Lawdragon 500Benchmark PlaintiffThe Legal 500, The National Law Journal and The Best Lawyers in America. Ms. Salzman has also provided testimony regarding cartel enforcement before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights.

Ms. Salzman has particular depth of experience in prosecuting antitrust violations involving international cartels. She currently serves as Court-appointed Co-Lead Counsel in In re Automotive Parts Antitrust Litigation, a private civil action that stems from one of the largest Department of Justice criminal investigations in United States history (over $1.1 billion in partial settlements with certain defendants to date). She also serves as Court-appointed Co-Lead Counsel in In re Interior Molded Doors Indirect Purchaser Antitrust Litigation as well as the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in In re Local TV Advertising Antitrust Litigation. Her other many accomplishments in this area include In re Air Cargo Shipping Services Antitrust Litigation (over $1.2 billion in settlements); In re Lorazepam & Clorazepate Antitrust Litigation ($147 million settlement); In re Buspirone Antitrust Litigation ($90 million settlement); and In re Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation ($52 million settlement).

Ms. Salzman serves at the highest levels of numerous national and local antitrust bar associations. She is an appointed Co-Chair of the American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law’s Global Private Litigation Committee, Advisory Board Member of the American Antitrust Institute, and Executive Committee Member and Vice Chair Secretary of the New York State Bar Association's Antitrust Law Section. She also provides pro bono representation to indigent and working-poor women in matrimonial and family law matters.

In re Automotive Parts Antitrust Class Action: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust case involving alleged price-fixing conspiracies as to various automotive parts that are components of new motor vehicles. Partial settlements to date of over $1.1 billion.

In re Air Cargo Shipping Services Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust case for an alleged global conspiracy to fix surcharges for air cargo shipping services. Defendants in the decade-long litigation included many of the world’s largest airlines. Settlements in the case total over $1.2 billion.

In re Disposable Contact Lens Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust case concerning an alleged price-fixing conspiracy involving four dominant manufacturers of disposable contact lenses in the United States.

In re Polyurethane Foam Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Executive Committee Member in an antitrust case regarding an alleged conspiracy to unlawfully fix the prices of polyurethane foam in the United States. Settlements in the case total over $433 million.

Oxbow Carbon & Minerals LLC, et al. v. Union Pacific Railroad Company, et al.: Representing plaintiffs in connection with its antitrust claims against defendants, Union Pacific Railroad Company and BNSF Railway Company for allegedly conspiring to increase revenue by imposing non-negotiable fuel surcharges on rail shipments.

In re Imprelis Herbicide Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in products liability matter involving alleged misrepresentations by DuPont regarding the safety of and environmental damage resulting from use of Imprelis herbicide. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)

In re Lorazepam and Clorazepate Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust class action alleging that Mylan Laboratories, Inc. implemented unlawful and anticompetitive price increases for generic versions of the anti-anxiety drugs Lorazepam and Clorazepate. The case settled for $147 million. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)

In re Abbott Laboratories Norvir Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust case stemming from Abbott Laboratories’ price increase of Norvir, which provides for a payment to non-profit organizations serving individuals with HIV. The case settled for $10 million on the eve of trial. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)

In re Marine Hose Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust class action on behalf of businesses injured by an alleged conspiracy to fix the prices of marine hose. The case settled for $32 million. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)

In re Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation: Court appointed Co-Lead Counsel in an antitrust class action alleging a conspiracy to fix the prices of ocean freight services between the continental United States and Puerto Rico. The case settled for $52 million. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)

In re Brand Name Prescription Drug Indirect Purchaser Antitrust Litigation: Ms. Salzman was principally responsible for administering a $65 million multi-state settlement to community health centers for subsidizing prescriptions to low-income patients on behalf of retail pharmacies for alleged price discrimination by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
