Shonette Gaston joined Robins Kaplan LLP as chief operating officer in 2017. As COO, she leads the business management of Robins Kaplan and oversees the daily operations of eight offices with over 250 attorneys across the country. She participates as a key strategic partner with the firm’s Executive Board and works closely with senior leadership and department chairs, advising on the constantly evolving legal market and the firm’s continued growth. Shonette directs a team of accomplished business professionals responsible for finance, technology, marketing, talent and diversity, pricing, legal project management, firm strategy, and other business functions of the firm.
Shonette served in senior-leadership roles in law firms for more than 25 years, providing governance and strategic guidance to firm leaders, lawyers, and all levels of staff. She launched offices in new markets, built successful practice management and LPM functions, and led the development and execution of wide-ranging growth strategies.
She previously worked at Covington & Burling LLP, where she led firm operations for all U.S. offices and Dubai. Before joining Covington in 2014, she served as the director of the controversies business unit and Washington-area operations at McDermott Will & Emery LLP. Shonette attended Northwestern University's Kellogg Executive Education Program and received her MBA and undergraduate degrees from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Shonette also studied business data analytics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
