Michele N. Detherage
Associate

Experience
Michele Detherage is a skilled litigator with substantial insurance industry experience. She acts as a coverage consultant for a number of insurance companies with respect to both first-party property and third-party liability claims. Michele has counselled clients regarding a broad range of coverage issues, including construction defect claims, environmental exposures, business interruptions, cyber losses and intellectual property disputes, as well as bad faith claims. Mindful that the law concerning coverage issues is constantly evolving, Michele travels to her clients’ offices to educate them regarding industry trends.
In addition to coverage, Michele also focuses her practice on representing insurers in large loss litigation. She has handled both property and liability matters from inception to resolution and has represented insurers as well as insureds at motion hearings, mediation and trial.
Michele also has experience in the area of employment law. She has assisted clients in the enforcement of employment agreement terms, and has successfully resolved matters initiated with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination on behalf of both employees and employers.
Prior to joining Robins Kaplan, Michele spent five years as in-house litigation counsel for one of the largest insurance companies in the country. In that role, Michele worked to combat medical and insurance fraud and obtained more than 50 favorable verdicts on behalf of the company. Michele’s experience as an in-house litigator provided her with valuable insight into the skill set and work-product sought by insurers, which she has been able to translate into her present practice.
In addition to her professional work, Michele has a strong commitment to community service. She was recently elected to the Board of Trustees for a non-profit organization dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged single mothers and their children break the cycle of poverty. Michele is also passionate about animal welfare and volunteers with various animal rescue organizations.
