Overview
Ben Lewis represents domestic and international insurers in complex insurance coverage matters, with a particular focus on large-loss first-party property claims involving energy, industrial, and builder’s risk losses. Over nearly a decade of coverage practice, he has handled matters involving power generation facilities, oil and gas operations, commercial construction projects, and other significant property losses in jurisdictions across the United States and abroad. His experience also encompasses business interruption, subrogation, liability, bad faith, and insurance defense matters.
Ben advises insurers throughout the life of a claim, from initial coverage analysis and investigation through litigation and resolution. He regularly analyzes complex policy language and coverage issues, prepares coverage opinions and claim correspondence, and works closely with claim professionals, adjusters, brokers, and technical experts to evaluate property damage, business interruption, and other components of a loss. When disputes proceed to litigation, Ben draws on his extensive litigation experience handling discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, and appellate matters.
Ben brings a practical, detail-oriented approach to matters that often involve complicated factual records, technical issues, and significant financial exposure. He works closely with clients and experts to understand the underlying loss, identify the coverage issues at stake, and develop a strategy tailored to the circumstances of each claim.
Ben is admitted to practice in Mississippi state and federal courts and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He is also an associate member of the Loss Executives Association.
