Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Melissa D’Alelio, Chair of the firm’s Insurance and Catastrophic Loss Group, has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel. She is the first Robins Kaplan attorney to be elected.

The American College of Coverage Counsel is a national organization comprised of over 400 preeminent lawyers involved in coverage and extracontractual matters, with Fellows representing policyholders, insurers, and Honorary members from academia. Established in 2012, the College is focused on the creative, ethical, and efficient adjudication of insurance coverage and extra-contractual disputes, peer-provided scholarship, professional coordination, and improvement of the relationship between and among its diverse members.

“Melissa has earned the respect of clients and peers for the depth of her coverage knowledge and her thoughtful, strategic approach to complex claims,” said Anthony Froio, Chair of the Executive Board and Managing Partner at Robins Kaplan. “Her election to the American College of Coverage Counsel reflects her longstanding commitment to the development of insurance coverage law and to serving the industry at the highest level.”

Based in Boston, D’Alelio focuses her practice on liability and property insurance matters. She represents insurers nationwide in the investigation, litigation, and trial of first- and third-party coverage, subrogation, reinsurance, and bad faith matters. Her work includes high-stakes property coverage disputes involving collapse, design defect, earth movement, environmental exposure, and catastrophic losses arising from hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and fires, as well as cyber-related property claims.

D’Alelio also regularly advises insurers on claims handling and policy interpretation under primary, excess, and specialty lines, including matters involving personal and advertising injury, defective construction, additional insureds, allocation, and priority of coverage. In addition, she assists clients in drafting customized policy forms and endorsements and provides training and counseling on regulatory compliance, depositions, and best practices.

D’Alelio has been widely recognized for her professional excellence, including ranking in Chambers USA for Insurance in Massachusetts, being named “Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year” by Euromoney, and selection to Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s “Top Women in Law.”

Beyond her industry leadership, D’Alelio is deeply committed to advancing diversity and expanding opportunities for women in the insurance profession. She founded Robins Kaplan’s Women in Insurance Group and leads its annual Symposium, a forum dedicated to elevating women’s voices and fostering substantive dialogue within the industry. A frequent speaker and author on authentic and inclusive leadership, she continues to champion mentorship, equity, and meaningful opportunities for women across the legal and insurance communities.
