What Reward Does a Whistleblower Get?
The False Claims Act provides that whistleblowers, or relators, be rewarded with a percentage of the amount actually recovered by the government as a result of the lawsuit. The specific amount of the reward depends on many factors, such as the amount of assistance the whistleblower and his/her attorneys provided during the investigation/litigation.
Under the False Claims Act, the whistleblower’s share ranges from:
- 15-25% when the government intervenes
- 25-30% when the case goes forward without the government
In either situation, the case can be resolved through a settlement or through a full courtroom trial.
