Information about claims in New York
New York recently passed the Child Victims Act that goes into effect on August 14, 2019. This change in the law gives survivors options that they never had before, including a significant change to the statute of limitations allowing many cases to be brought that would have previously been impossible under the former laws.
Before this law was passed, the statute of limitations was a major obstacle to survivors of childhood abuse seeking justice in courts of law. We have seen these types of timelines in other states; it presents a unique opportunity for survivors who were abused in New York. But when this window of time opens, it is important to act quickly.
It is important that survivors are fully informed of their legal options before deciding how to proceed. Robins Kaplan has a New York office with attorneys and business professionals dedicated to representing survivors of childhood sex abuse. We are available to discuss your options on the phone, by email, or in person. Please contact us today by dialing 212.980.2334 or fill out our online contact form above.
Information about claims in New Jersey
New Jersey passed a law giving survivors new rights to bring legal action against the offenders who harmed them as children. The law goes into effect on December 1, 2019. When that time comes, survivors of sexual assault will have additional time to file lawsuits against abusers and organizations responsible for the abuse.
Before this law was passed, the statute of limitations was only two years, which created a major obstacle to survivors seeking justice in courts of law. We have seen these types of timelines in other states; it presents a unique opportunity for survivors who suffered abuse in the state of New Jersey. But now that this window is open, it is important to act quickly.
It is important that survivors are fully informed of their legal options before deciding how to proceed. Robins Kaplan has several New Jersey attorneys and business professionals dedicated to representing survivors of childhood sex abuse. We are available to discuss your options on the phone, by email, or in person. Please contact us today by dialing 212.980.2334 or fill out our online contact form above.
