Partial Settlements Exceeding $40 Million Achieved in Antitrust Litigation Against Contact Lens Manufacturers

Matter ongoing

In re: Disposable Contact Lens Antitrust Litigation, 15-md-02626 (M.D. Fla.)

Robins Kaplan serves as court-appointed co-lead counsel on behalf of a class of contact lens purchasers against the four dominant manufacturers and the largest nationwide distributor of contact lenses.

The Firm filed one of the first class action complaints alleging that defendants conspired to eliminate discount competition by implementing coordinated price floors, causing prices for contact lenses to dramatically rise while the minimum pricing policies were in place.

Plaintiffs were granted class certification and defeated defendants’ motions for summary judgment. The matter has settled against three defendants, with partial settlements totaling over $40 million, and remains ongoing against two defendants before the trial court.

Past results are reported to provide the reader with an indication of the type of litigation we practice. They do not and should not be construed to create an expectation of result in any other case, as all cases are dependent upon their own unique fact situation and applicable law.
