Stacey Slaughter Named a Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal

August 2, 2018

Minneapolis, MN—August 2, 2018National trial firm Robins Kaplan LLP® announced today that Stacey Slaughter, a partner in the firm’s Minneapolis and New York offices, has been recognized as a 2018 Litigation Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. The annual list recognizes attorneys who have moved the needle with innovative legal strategies and out-of-the-box thinking that is changing the practice of law. Slaughter is one of only 30 individuals honored nationwide this year.

Over her two decades of courtroom experience, Slaughter has represented individuals, investors, and organizations facing significant commercial disputes, complex business problems, and novel legal issues. Notably, she served as co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs in Dahl et al. v. Bain Capital Partners LLC et al., which alleged a multi-year conspiracy among private equity funds to drive down the prices for leveraged buyouts of publicly traded companies. Defendants in the groundbreaking case included many of the largest and most recognized private equity firms, such as The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and Bain Capital Partners.

Most recently, Slaughter was appointed to the eight-member Financial Institution Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in multidistrict litigation against Equifax over its unprecedented data security breach. She serves as counsel to Summit Credit Union in the lawsuit against Equifax, which marked the first U.S. financial institution to sue over the Equifax breach. In another headline case, Slaughter was appointed to the nine-member Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in multidistrict litigation against Fiat Chrysler over “defeat devices” that masked vehicles’ true emissions levels.

Slaughter has been recognized as one of Law360’s 25 Most Influential Women in Securities Law and as a Woman Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal, among other honors. In 2016, she was elected as the executive director of the International Financial Litigation Network, a leading global litigation network of more than 40 law firms in 20 countries.

She is the fifth consecutive Robins Kaplan partner to be recognized as a Litigation Trailblazer since 2014, when Martin Lueck, chairman of Robins Kaplan’s Executive Board, was recognized. Roman Silberfeld was recognized in 2015, Ronald Schutz was recognized in 2016, and Tara Sutton was recognized in 2017.
