Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is pleased to announce that the firm has been ranked #8 in The American Lawyer’s  Pro Bono Survey featured in the July issue.  Scores are determined from the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer in 2011, and the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work.  The firm was also ranked in the top 10 for its 2009 and 2010 pro bono hours.

"It is a great achievement to be recognized for our strong and constant commitment to pro bono," said Anne M. Lockner, a partner of the firm and chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee. “Since 2008, more than 7 percent of our total attorney billable time has been devoted to pro bono, with the goal of 50 hours of pro bono work per attorney each year."

The firm recently launched its Veteran’s and Military Law Initiative, devoted to assisting veterans, active military personnel, and their families with their various legal needs. In addition to representing various veterans and active military personnel and their families on individual cases, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. sponsored a clinic at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Minneapolis on July 10, 2012 where members of the firm took part in helping over 100 veterans, assisting them with various legal needs. This initiative follows the tradition of the firm’s Youth Law Initiative, which is devoted to safeguarding the legal rights of underrepresented children and teens who are victims of abuse or neglect, generates a great amount of participation and enthusiasm from the firm’s attorneys.  Through the Youth Law Initiative, attorneys work to ensure the legal protection of children and teens while striving to protect their rights and dignity.  The firm also represents immigrants, disaster victims, the homeless, mortgage-fraud victims, indigent criminal defendants, veterans, victims of domestic violence, and those suffering discrimination or persecution.

A monthly internal e-newsletter inspires, motivates, and educates the firm with details about select current pro bono cases and upcoming training opportunities.  Additionally, an annual report describes highlights of pro bono activity from each of the firm's offices and is available publicly on the firm's pro bono web page.
