Peter Schmit and Phillip Sieff Named to The National Law Journal’s Annual List of Trailblazers

May 3, 2019

Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Peter Schmit and Phillip Sieff have been named to The National Law Journal’s annual list of trailblazers.

Schmit has been named to the inaugural list of Health Care Law Trailblazers, recognizing attorneys who “have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their sector.” Sieff has been named a Plaintiff’s Lawyer Trailblazer, which recognizes attorneys who are “agents of change” and “continue to make their mark in various aspects of legal work on the plaintiffs’ side.”

Schmit, chair of the firm’s Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury Practice Group, has dedicated his practice to representing those injured by poor medical care. He has tried and settled numerous significant cases in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa involving all types of medical malpractice. He is a past president of the Minnesota Association for Justice, where he led efforts to ensure that the right to a trial by jury is not undermined in the courts or at the State Capitol. He is certified as a civil trial specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, and was inducted into the American Board of Trial Attorneys in 2013 and the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2018.

For decades, Sieff has battled for justice when wrongdoers have caused serious injury or death. His extensive experience includes a number of complex and high-profile cases, including serving as lead co-counsel of the I-35W Consortium, a group of 17 law firms that provided legal services to over 100 collapse victims. The consortium recovered more than $77 million for survivors and those who lost loved ones in the bridge collapse. Sieff’s other work includes recovering $15.4 million for the victim of an industrial accident and representing the families of two men killed by a methadone-impaired driver.
