Robins Kaplan attorney Katherine Barrett Wiik has been appointed by the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota to serve on a Merit Selection Panel tasked with selecting candidates to become a new United States Magistrate Judge. The 14-member panel will review applications, conduct interviews, and ultimately recommend five candidates to the district judges for consideration.

An attorney who focuses her practice on appellate advocacy and strategic motions, Ms. Barrett Wiik also has extensive experience representing clients in state and federal trial courts, including the District of Minnesota. Her litigation and appellate experience covers a diverse range of issues, including commercial and financial litigation, jurisdiction and claims sufficiency, civil rights, and individual and mass torts. Her practice also includes a strong commitment to pro bono work, particularly issues relating to gender justice and human rights.

The district court announced a vacancy for a full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge position on February 9. Applications for the position, which will be based in Minneapolis or St. Paul, will be accepted until March 9.
