William Stanhope Appointed President of Atlanta Legal Aid Society

ATLANTA (February 2015) – Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that William H. Stanhope, a Partner in the firm’s Atlanta office, was appointed president of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society Board of Directors. Mr. Stanhope has served on the Board for two years and has been on the Advisory Committee for over 15 years.
“I am honored to serve the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and my esteemed Board colleagues in this capacity,” Mr. Stanhope stated. “Legal Aid’s services have a tremendous impact on the Atlanta community, and I know I speak on behalf of the entire Board when I say that we look forward to supporting their 2015 initiatives and goals.”
The Atlanta Legal Aid Society has been in operation since 1924, representing Atlanta's underprivileged citizens in civil legal cases. The organization provides vigorous, innovative advocacy that changes laws and empowers clients in Georgia’s Fulton, Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Cobb counties. Atlanta Legal Aid serves nearly 25,000 clients annually, assisting them with some of life's most basic needs, including shelter, food, education and personal safety.
Mr. Stanhope practices in Robins Kaplan’s Business Litigation, Domestic and International Arbitration, and Insurance and Catastrophic Loss groups, and maintains a focus in the insurance realm. He has trial and appellate experience in business interruption issues, property insurance coverage and subrogation, fire litigation, and inspection defense cases. Mr. Stanhope has a particular understanding in the areas of turbine generator problems, fires, explosions and equipment failures, construction equipment failures, metallurgical failures, geotechnical issues, and water treatment chemistry problems. He also has commercial litigation experience with the Unfair Trade Practice Act, copyright infringement and franchise termination cases. Mr. Stanhope has been named a Super Lawyers “Georgia Super Lawyer” for the past 10 years, and was listed in ALM Legal Leaders’ “Georgia’s Top Rated Lawyers of 2014.”
