In August, 2006, plaintiff, an 18-year-old male, was inner tubing on Christmas Lake when another rider on the tube fell off. The operator of the boat pulling plaintiff slowed down and began to turn the boat in order to pick up the rider who had fallen off the tube. At this time, another boat, which was operated by a 14-year-old, ran over the plaintiff. The plaintiff's right arm was severed above the elbow. The young man also suffered a fractured pelvis and lacerations of his flank. The case went to mediation in August, 2007. After a nine hour mediation, the insurer for the 14-year-old operator of the boat which ran over the plaintiff agreed to settle the case while preserving a contribution against a different party, the third-party defendants.
Settlement: $3.1 million
