Overview

Sam Black practices complex civil litigation in the firm’s business litigation group, with a specific focus on antitrust and healthcare matters. He brings a diverse background in both the public and private sectors, including experience in government contracts, corporate disputes, and regulatory compliance.

During law school, Sam gained hands-on litigation experience through clerkships with both the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office and a private criminal defense attorney, where he researched, drafted, and argued pretrial motions, prepared legal briefs and memos, and advised clients on available courses of action.

Sam is actively engaged in pro bono work, serving on case teams for Friends of the Boundary Waters and the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. He is also a member of the DFL Lawyers Committee.

Sam earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he served as Lead Online Editor of the Minnesota Law Review. He graduated magna cum laude from St. John’s University with dual degrees in Political Science and Hispanic Studies.
