Esther S. Mignanelli

Esther Soria Mignanelli is a former federal prosecutor with experience as both a civil and criminal trial attorney. She has represented clients through every stage of litigation, from the investigative stages through appeal. Esther has served as counsel in civil and criminal fraud cases, contract disputes, and matters involving survivors of sexual or physical violence.

Prior to joining Robins Kaplan, Esther was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago, where she worked in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office spearheading dozens of investigations at once. She led the prosecution of federal crimes ranging from bank fraud and identity theft, to money laundering, narcotics, human trafficking, and child exploitation offenses.

In addition to the trial and appellate experience she obtained in that role, Esther regularly served as lead counsel in detention, suppression, and probable cause hearings, and in presenting evidence before a grand jury. Esther worked alongside special agents and investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration, IRS, FBI, ATF, and the Department of Homeland Security. In 2020, Esther served as a liaison between the U.S. Attorney’s Office and two of the most active Districts of the Chicago Police Department to streamline the adoption of firearm-related cases from state into federal court.

Esther began her career as a litigator at a regional law firm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she handled commercial litigation matters with an emphasis on construction and environmental litigation.
