Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to be named a finalist for Civil Rights/Discrimination (Non-Employment) Law Firm of the Year in The National Law Journal’s 2025 Elite Trial Lawyers Awards.
Additionally, Katie Bennett has been honored with The National Law Journal’s Elite Women of the Plaintiffs Bar Award, recognizing women attorneys who have demonstrated repeated success in cutting-edge work on behalf of plaintiffs.
Bennett has established herself as a powerful advocate for justice, specializing in civil rights violations and catastrophic personal injury cases. Recently named Deputy Chair of the National Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, and Civil Rights Group and appointed to the firm's Executive Board, Bennett has demonstrated exceptional leadership within Robins Kaplan. Her groundbreaking work includes securing a historic $12.2 million settlement in 2023 for Terrance Winborn—the largest recovery in Minnesota history for Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment violations against a jail—after uncovering systemic failures that led to Winborn’s severe injuries, including arm amputations. In 2024, Bennett obtained a $2.75 million settlement for Deyonta Green, who suffered serious injuries after being denied essential healthcare while incarcerated.
Bennett has also been instrumental in securing multiple six and seven-figure settlements in cases involving police misconduct, including a recent $600,000 settlement for Patty Day following alleged excessive force by former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Her distinguished career includes being named a "Top Woman in Law" and "Attorney of the Year" by Minnesota Lawyer, recognition in The Best Lawyers in America, and inclusion among Lawdragon's "500 Leading Civil Rights & Plaintiff Employment Lawyers."
