Experience

Michele Detherage is a skilled litigator with substantial insurance industry experience. She advises a number of insurance companies with respect to both first-party property and third-party liability claims. Michele has counselled clients regarding a broad range of coverage issues, including COVID-19 claims, environmental exposures, business interruptions and intellectual property disputes.

In addition to coverage, Michele also focuses her practice on representing insurers in litigation matters. She has handled both property and liability cases from inception to resolution and has represented insurers at motion hearings, mediation and trial.

Michele also has experience in the area of employment law. She has assisted clients in the enforcement of employment agreement terms, and has successfully resolved matters initiated with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination on behalf of both employees and employers.

Prior to joining Robins Kaplan, Michele spent five years as in-house litigation counsel for one of the largest insurance companies in the country. In that role, Michele worked to combat insurance fraud and obtained more than 50 favorable verdicts on behalf of the company. Michele’s experience as an in-house litigator provided her with valuable insight into the skill set and work-product sought by insurers, which she has been able to translate into her present practice.

In addition to her professional work, Michele has a strong commitment to community service and volunteers with local animal rescue organizations.
