MINNEAPOLIS (September 2014) – Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. is pleased to announce that associate Melissa Wendland has won the “Excellence Award” for 2014-2015 at the Minnesota Association of Justice (MAJ) Annual Convention, where she was also invited to become a member of the MAJ executive committee. The association annually recognizes a lawyer who embodies the highest tradition of personal and professional excellence in Minnesota.
The Excellence Award is given to an attorney who has devoted significant amounts of time and tireless effort to activities that benefit the organization, has a strong record of community service and a personal commitment to excellence. Ms. Wendland was recognized for her diligent efforts to pass a law that conformed professional negligence statutes to changes in recent amendments to Minnesota’s civil procedure rules. The change in the law is a small but significant one, and returned the law to the status quo in light of the civil law amendments. She was involved from start to finish in changing the law, including testifying in Senate and House committees. She also has been a frequent CLE presenter on the civil procedure amendments around the state.
Currently co-chair of the MAJ legislative committee, she was also this year’s co-chair of the MAJ Women for Justice Section. She also currently serves as the Treasurer of the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Litigation Section. She was named this year as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers.
Ms. Wendland is a trial lawyer who practices in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, and products liability. She represents individuals and families who have suffered injuries because of the negligence of others.
