Stacey Slaughter has been named to Law360's inaugural list of "Women in Securities Law." This award recognizes 25 female attorneys who have achieved outstanding success in the largely male-dominated world of securities law. The top 25 were selected from a fiercely competitive field, and only those who have achieved an impressive record of success in securities and litigation were named to the inaugural list.
A partner at Robins Kaplan LLP, Slaughter represents businesses, organizations, institutional investors, shareholders, and brokers that face significant commercial disputes, complex business problems, and novel legal issues. One of the most consequential cases Slaughter has been involved with in recent years is Dahl et al. v. Bain Capital Partners et. al, which alleged a multi-year conspiracy among the country's largest private equity funds to drive down the prices for leveraged buyouts (LBOs) of publicly traded companies. Defendants in the case included many of the largest and most recognized private equity firms, including The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and Bain Capital Partners. Years of work by Slaughter and her team led to a settlement totaling nearly $600 million, a result that will likely make future LBOs more competitive and fair to the shareholders affected by them.
Slaughter's record has resulted in numerous accolades and invitations to speak. Her recent speaking engagements include a presentation on emerging financial topics for the New York State Bar Association, a webinar for Bloomberg BNA, and a panel discussion on securities litigation at the International Financial Litigation Network's Third Congress in Madrid. A frequent writer, Slaughter published a chapter on securities law in both the 2014 and 2015 editions of Thomson Reuters' "Inside the Minds" series.
Slaughter is recognized amongst a list of several trailblazers who held or still hold prominent positions within the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including the first woman ever to serve as chair of the agency. View the full list of honorees by visiting Law360.
Stacey Slaughter’s accomplishments were described in detail in a profile published by Law360, which included remarks from several of her fellow attorneys. According to Jim Martin, a partner at Zelle LLP, “This is a person that will take the time to learn your business, who will think creatively, who you will be happy to deal with on a day-to-day basis and will give you confidence that the job is getting done right.”
