The New York County Commercial Division—A Leader In State Court Innovation

Over the past year, the New York State Supreme Court Commercial Division in New York County has been extremely active in adopting new innovative measures designed to speed cases to resolution (whether by settlement or trial). A number of these rules changes were spurred by the June 2012 publication of the Chief Judge’s Task Force on Commercial Litigation in the 21st Century, Report and Recommendations of the Chief Judge of the State of New York (the ‘‘Task Force Report.’’).1 And some of these changes follow local rules adopted by federal courts in New York that have positively impacted case resolution and discovery disputes.
