Law360, New York (November 24, 2015, 4:34 PM ET) -- The wait is over! After four-and-a-half years, the Food and Drug Administration recently finalized the first two of seven major rules required under the Food Safety Modernization Act on Sept. 10, 2015. FSMA was originally enacted by Congress in 2010 and signed into law by President Obama in January 2011. FSMA came about after the United States experienced a number of tainted food outbreaks between 2006 and 2010, some involving fatalities. The FDA hails FSMA as historic, calling for sweeping changes. In fact, it’s been more than 70 years since the United States overhauled the nation’s food safety regime.
